artichokes

It was good to get back to Alcatraz on Wednesday, and see what had happened in the two weeks that I'd been away. All the gull chicks had become much bigger and less fluffy, and there were plenty of new flowers in bloom. I spent most of the morning deadheading geraniums, but I did take a moment to admire the flowering artichokes.

Mmm. Reminds me of Castro, modestly self-described in that characteristic American understatement as 'the artichoke capital of the world'.

Ah, I suspect that Castroville is on the way to Gilroy, the garlic capital of the world.

Not a Big Artichoke or a Colossal Clove to be seen in either town, however.
