modern day trilobites!

I'd seen their little dried shells on people's mantlepieces, and posed atop quaint lobster pots in neighbouring gardens, and so I thought horseshoe crabs were small little creatures. Until, one afternoon, this fellow washed up at the beach near where we were staying. I didn't think to add my boot for scale, but this trilobitesque fellow was a good thirty centimetres long. Scuttle scuttle scuttle.

'small little creatures' eh? As opposed to small large creatures, enormous little creatures and big big creatures, I suppose?
