I'd clearly become too accustomed to the mild-mannered natural surrounds of North America, and took my shoes off while pottering about the garden. Oooh, you say, isn't Australia full of venemous creatures, ready to leap out and savage an unwary toe? Surely you should put your boots back on? Well, I did, and that's when I was bitten. I'm not sure what creature was lurking in there, but I'm hypothesising redback spider. It hurt, but not too much at first. Now, two days later, the little red mark has become bigger and bruisier and almost my whole foot is swollen. I figure I would have died by now if it was going to kill me, though.
